Primary Speech Arts

The Primary Speech Arts schedule is now available for download (see below).

Please arrive at the St. Pius X school gymnasium at least 15 minutes before your child's category start time.  Late arrivals might not be able to compete.

Festival dates: Monday, January 22nd - Friday, January 26th
Festival location: St. Pius X Elementary gymnasium

Please note the following:

  • Full Uniform:  Children should be dressed in full uniform and arrive well-groomed (sweaters, shiny shoes and tidy hair).
  • Food Donations:  St. Pius would appreciate nonperishable food donations for the Food Bank.
  • Original Poetry Books:  There will be a box labeled Holy Trinity containing the original poetry books if your child chose a poem from the school library.  There will not be a teacher from our school present everyday.  You are responsible for finding your child’s book/poem for your child to present to the adjudicator.  Please return the book to the box after your child’s performance, as other children may need this book.  Every student’s poem should be clearly marked.  You must bring the original book to the competition if your child’s poem is from an outside source.  Photocopies will not be accepted.
  • Photography and videotaping will be allowed as long as it is discreet.
  • Toddlers are strongly discouraged from attending the festival.  If this is absolutely not possible, it is crucial that non-school aged children be able to remain quiet for up to an hour.
  • The children attend the competition throughout the day.  Each student is given a session/time to recite his/her poem.  Each session lasts about 45 minutes.  At the end of each performance, the students in Grades 1, 2, and 3 will receive a certificate that reflects their performance (gold, silver and bronze).  All kindergarten students receive participation certificates, as this will be their first time participating.
